Phenylpiracetam hydrazide, also known as fonturacetam hydrazide, is a racetam of phenylpiracetam origins made more potent by adding a hydrazide group. 

A Russian research group first reported PPH in 1980 as part of a series of chemical compounds investigated as anticonvulsants.

Phenylpiracetam is like its parent molecule, piracetam. It enhances memory, cognitive function, and even physical strength. The addition of a phenyl ring makes it 30 to 60 times more potent than piracetam.

The IOC has recently banned phenylpiracetam Hydrazide from use because athletes could abuse it as a performance enhancer. Since it increases physical stamina and provides improved tolerance to cold weather, it appears on the lists of stimulants banned for in-competition use by the World Anti-Doping Agency.

Phenylpiracetam is essentially a piracetam molecule with a phenyl group attached to it. This addition increases its bioavailability and ability to pass through the blood-brain barrier. 

Phenylpiracetam Hydrazide increases the density of acetylcholine (ACh), NMDA, GABA, and dopamine receptors in the brain.

More receptors mean more binding sites for neurotransmitters that affect memory formation, cognition, sleep, and mood.

Phenylpiracetam Hydrazide may also help reduce specific symptoms of anxiety and depression.

Phenylpiracetam is sold as a prescription-only drug in Russia under the name Phenotropil.
